How do I dispose of used syringes?
Millions of people use needles, syringes, and lancets at home to care for their health. These needles, syringes, and lancets are called sharps. Safe disposal of used sharps is critically important for the health and safety of people and the environment. When these sharps come from places other than health care settings—such as individual residences and non-health-related facilities—there are specific considerations and challenges. Fortunately, New York has special programs designed to address them. Used household sharps must be stored safely and disposed of properly to protect people from diseases. Once they are stored properly (click link below) used sharps may be taken to any hospital or nursing home for disposal.
