Schuyler County Coalition on Underage Drinking and Drugs (SCCUDD) is hosting their Annual Retreat to celebrate their accomplishments towards reducing underage drinking and drugs in Schuyler County. The event is open to the public and will be on January 20th from 1PM – 3:30PM at the Human Services Complex in Montour Falls, Room 120. This is the rescheduled date and time after the retreat needed to be cancelled in December due to inclement weather.
The SCCUDD coalition has done a lot over the years to help reduce the rates of underage drinking and drug use in Schuyler County. The Annual Retreat is held to show appreciation for the coalition, while also providing additional education.
This year, SCCUDD has hosted events including Drug Take Back Day and their Sticker Shock Campaign, which helps educate the public about the dangers of underage drinking and the legal consequences for providing alcohol to minors. Over the summer, SCCUDD also created the Riptide campaign to highlight the dangers of drug and alcohol use and its long-term impacts on health. In addition to their work with multiple organizations, members of the coalition have provided education and awareness about underage drinking and drug use throughout the community.
The Annual Retreat includes two free trainings on how to use Naloxone and how to recognize different vaping devices disguised as common items found in a child’s bedroom. Food and beverages will be provided at no cost as attendees enjoy guest speakers from the District Attorney’s Office, Public Health, and Roswell Park. Attendees are asked to RSVP for this event by calling Public Health Specialist Rukundo Benedict at 607-535-8140.
