County Administrator

Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in Schuyler County. We’re glad you joined us.

Schuyler County is the home to Watkins Glen International Raceway, Seneca Lake, Watkins Glen State Park, and over 40 outstanding wineries and has become a destination for over three million visitors annually. The growth in vacation rentals and the success of a luxury hotel and conference center on the lake front has transformed our community into what it is today and will act as the catalyst for even more great things yet to come.  I invite you to join us as we grow to new heights!

Collaborative Government

As the administrative arm of New York State, Schuyler County government exists in good measure to provide state and federally sponsored service programs to residents, and we aim to so that as efficiently and effectively as possible.  However, Schuyler County government has a history of being effective in other ways by taking a collaborative approach to service delivery, economic development, and overall government success.  We pride ourselves on our partnerships – we may be small, but we get things done!

As a good example of this, we have formed a public / private partnership to create an open access optical fiber network to expand broadband access in our region. While we very close to providing 100% high speed internet access throughout our rural areas, we are doubling our efforts to make sure every inch of Schuyler County has the digital access necessary so our residents and businesses can operate successfully in the modern world.

Live & Work in Schuyler County

Schuyler County, in addition to being a great place to visit, is an even better place to live and work. As we continue to experience growth in our tourism, agricultural, and retail sectors, living in Schuyler County is a great decision in the “Post-COVD” world – we offer affordable living, a slower pace to life, as well as the unique scenic beauty and natural resources of the Finger Lakes region that few others can match.  With so many people able to work from home, a Schuyler County view outside your window is the perfect backdrop for your Zoom profile, or enjoy a short commute to our neighboring cities -- Corning, Ithaca and Elmira – where industrial and academic opportunities await.

Looking for an upgraded quality of life?  We’ve got it.  Enjoy hiking at Watkins Glen State Park or at the only national forest in New York State.  Visit one of our many breathtaking falls and gorges, or partake in our world-class restaurants, wineries, craft breweries, or distilleries.  Our quaint set of four villages offers old-fashioned shopping at its finest – or take a short drive to one of the many brick-and-mortar shopping venues quite close to us.  And don’t forget about all the fresh produce, dairy, and meats produced by our local farmers and artisans!

As businesses and individuals evaluate potential areas to locate, factors such as quality of education, economic and community climate, environment, and opportunity all weigh significantly in the decision-making process. I am thrilled to see continued investment in our community as businesses seek to start up or relocate to this county. We’ve got what you’re looking for, so come be a part of “Schuyler Life.”

A Growing, Forward-Thinking Community

This community is on the verge of explosive growth, both as a destination location for vacationers and as a permanent relocation spot for those looking for a change in life. Community and government leaders are working together to maximize the quality of living opportunities Schuyler offers and address our challenges in constructive and innovative ways.  Together we will ensure that we maintain the delicate balance between promoting growth and conserving our natural assets and way of life.

In Schuyler County we do this together through long range planning and effective teamwork.  The Schuyler County Council of Governments continues to be active and dynamic, providing a forum whereby each municipality and school district within the county can communicate, collaborate, and cooperate in recognizing and meeting the challenges ahead. Created in 2005, the longevity of this organization is a testament to the community’s commitment to form partnerships that get the job done. County government stands ready to support and invest in these efforts and initiatives to promote responsible growth and enhance the quality of life in our communities.

The Brightest of Futures

As County Administrator, I look to the future with great excitement and enthusiasm. I continue to marvel at the natural beauty of this area and the collaborative spirit of our community. For visitors and residents alike, the warm and welcoming nature of our county positions us well for the future. The Village of Watkins Glen, as a recent Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) winner, continues its transformation into a world-class destination location, and a new commitment from county government to invest in our communities beyond Watkins Glen will “polish” our hidden gems like never before, create year-round economic opportunities, and build a stable community where our children can thrive and succeed.

Schuyler County is a great place to raise a family, earn a living, or simply enjoy the breathtaking scenery. We are already awesome, and we will continue to work hard to make us even more so. Please come check us out!

All the best,
